Due to open their new taproom soon, Steel Brew Co. started brewing out of their garage back in 2018. They have been hit hard with the effects of Coronavirus, meaning they could not go ahead with the opening. Based in the beautiful Royal William Yard in the Melville building, they quickly adapted to the situation taking it in their stride.
Instead of immediately switching to online deliveries, they prioritised getting free pints to NHS workers and other key workers. Their first ever beer made in the new taproom was made specially as a one off for the key workers, and over 1,000 pints will be heading out.
By the end of the first week they had delivered over 500 pints of the specially made Blonde Ale. Delivery dog Obie was ensuring everyone stayed 2 metres apart whilst the key workers received their pints. They gave beer to paramedics, firefighters, supermarket workers, GP surgery staff, delivery drivers, postal workers, bus drivers and staff, railway workers, prison officers and those working in corner shops. They will be delivering 500 more pints next week.
Their website is now live, where you can order beers to be delivered straight to your door. You’ll find a range of beers on sale in bottles, 1 or 2 pint hoppers, growlers and mini kegs. In addition you can also get a ‘Bar in a Box’. Teaming up with neighbours Le Vignoble, you can add wine to your order, or prosecco or even cocktails. There’s also packages which are perfect for date nights at home.
They’ve also introduced a Pay it Forward option so you can treat a key worker or a team of heroes (like a hospital ward, shop staff etc.) to a drink from their core range of beers in their taproom once this is all over. Any rounds of 5 drinks or more, you’ll get a free drink for yourself as a reward for your generosity and support for the small independent brewery too.
